Where I buy food online:
If you’re not already a member of Thrive Market, get on it. Thrive offers organic and natural products at wholesale prices through a $60/year membership–that’s only $5/month. Think Costco meets Whole Foods online. Their goal is to democratize the food system and make healthy food available for everyone despite socioeconomic status. For each paid membership, they donate one membership to a low-income family. They’ve also got great customer service, and free shipping on orders over $50. Sign up for a free one-month trial!
My favorite protein powder:
Vital Proteins makes a grass-fed, pasture-raised collagen powder that’s got an amazing amino acid profile. Unlike gelatin, collagen won’t gel in cold liquids, so it makes a wonderful addition to smoothies!
Collagen-rich foods make up a large portion of traditional diets. Our modern diets no longer supply us with enough collagen to keep our connective tissue healthy, so I’m a big fan of supplementing with this stuff.
I don’t usually recommend protein powders because they’re usually highly processed and full of junk, but Vital Proteins is minimally processed with no weird additives. They also sell it over at Thrive Market!
My Favorite Skin Health Solution:
We always talk about using probiotics to boost the microbiome in the gut, but did you ever think about the microbiome on your skin? The microbes on our skin play a huge role in keeping us healthy. Today we’re constantly using antibacterial soaps and sanitizers that are wiping out the probiotics that keep our skin balanced. The folks over at Mother Dirt have made this awesome probiotic spray that helps re-populate your body’s largest organ with good microbes. The result? Happy, healthy, balanced skin that requires less maintenance!
My favorite barefoot shoes:
Our bodies (and our brains!) do best when we’re connected directly to the earth. It’s not always practical to walk around barefoot, so I like to get footwear that mimics the feel of being barefoot while still protecting my feet. Earth Runners are the most versatile earthing shoes I have ever seen… They’re attractive, conductive, minimal, and suitable for running and grocery shopping alike! They have conductive copper in the bed of the shoe that facilitates grounding, and I think they’re super cute. Get more info here!
My ergonomic desk setup:
It’s important to set your monitor at eye-level so that you’re not putting strain on your neck looking down or up all day. If your desk is at the correct height for your forearms, but your monitor is too low, this is a great solution. Z-Plan Fab makes these beautiful stands at custom heights so that you can position your monitor in just the right place, and say goodbye to carpel tunnel syndrome! Stacking books under your monitor works too, but if you want something more aesthetically pleasing, this stand is awesome.
My ergonomic bathroom setup:
We have been squatting while we do our bathroom business for millennia. The porcelain throne that we are now accustomed to was only introduced relatively recently, and unfortunately it produces a less-than-ideal pooping posture. But you don’t need to throw out your toilet and dig a hole in the backyard… The Squatty Potty allows you to sit in a squatting position on your favorite toilet! It has been shown to help relieve constipation, hemorrhoids, colon disease, diverticulitis, and pelvic floor imbalances… And it comes in different materials and price points so you can find one that perfectly suits your needs. :)
Keeping blood sugar levels stable is one of the most important things you can do for your health, especially if you are trying to balance your hormones or reduce inflammation. This at-home blood sugar test kit will give you valuable information about the way your body is responding to the food you’re eating, so you can tweak your diet as needed to achieve balance.
